The United States Men’s National Team continues its Kickoff Series with a test against Colombia. This young U.S. team is joined by veterans Michael Bradley and Brad Guzan against yet another top team in the world.

Joining Bradley and Guzan were originally other high profile players — Tyler Adams, Christian Pulisic, and Weston McKennie. However, all three got injured and Marky Delgado and Fafa Picault were added to the roster as replacements. The injuries to these three come at a bad time — as can be said about most injuries — because Adams, Pulisic, and McKennie all will play vital parts in the USMNT picture moving forward and need this time to gain chemistry with the rest of the team.

Colombia has dominated the all-time series and the U.S. is just 3-13-3 in 19 games, and winless in the last five matches dating back to 2007. The last match was on June 25, 2016 in the Copa America third-place match. Five Americans on this team were part of that squad that lost 1-0 — DeAndre Yedlin, Bradley, Guzan, Ethan Horvath, and John Brooks. Of the five, only Bradley and Yedlin saw game action.

Yedlin started and played the full 90, as will probably be the same situation tonight. Bradley captained that match, as is also expected to do so tonight, but played 79 minutes before making way for Darlington Nagbe. Pulisic played 74 minutes in that match and likely would’ve played the full 90 tonight if not for his injury.

Carlos Bacca scored the lone goal in that third-place match and is back in action tonight. The U.S. will need to keep a close eye on the striker. Of course, the biggest threat that Colombia has is James Rodriguez. With the attacking power that the Colombians possess, the U.S. will most likely deploy the same strategy that Dave Sarachan has gone with the past few games — sit back and defend, and choose carefully when to strike forward.

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be the person who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It’s OK to be critical, and, let’s face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we’d rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match! Go America!
