Four Reasons to Watch Orlando City’s Remaining Games

Watching Orlando City play this season has been a chore to say the least. From poor performances to a complete lack of effort, it’s hard to blame anyone that simply can’t watch the team play anymore. After another loss this weekend, in which the team was completely outplayed, you might be asking yourself if you should just skip the remaining three games and find something better to do with your time. While I can’t say that’s a bad idea, here are some reasons why you should watch the final three games of the season.

See the Future

This season’s pretty much over and with a coaching change having taken place this year, we can expect several current players to depart shortly after the season ends. But there are some young and talented players that will likely return. Josué Colmán is just 20 years old and Chris Mueller is not much older, at 22. Both have seen significant minutes this season and, while still a little rough around the edges, have shown to be good young talents. Cam Lindley played in the MLS Homegrown Game this season and should see some minutes down the stretch as well.

Still Some Good Players to Watch

There may not be many players on Orlando City worth watching, but the Lions do face some very good opponents to close out the year. Unfortunately, MLS is one of the few leagues that does not adhere to the FIFA international schedule so this week’s game against the Seattle Sounders will not include Uruguayan international Nicolás Lodeiro or Peruvian Raúl Ruidíaz, both of whom are representing their national teams. However, the following weekend the international players will be back and the Columbus Crew should be bringing some players worth seeing in person. Argentine Federico Higuain has been stellar since joining MLS and the team features U.S. internationals Zack Steffen, Wil Trapp, and Gyasi Zardes. With the final game against the New York Red Bulls being played up north, most City fans will have to watch on television. But with a roster featuring Bradley Wright-Phillips, Kaku, and others, the Red Bulls always put on a good display.

You Won’t See Orlando City Again for Four Months

In some ways, this is a good thing. But you have to admit that by the time the new year comes around, you’ll be missing the Lions taking the field each week. The 2018 season has seemed to drag on and on with many fans anxious for it to end. But when you’ve gone a month or two without seeing your favorite team play, you’ll be clamoring for the next season to start. You might as well take full advantage of watching the team play while they do, regardless of how bad they appear.

Watch the Records Fall

They may all be negative records, like most goals conceded and worst goal differential, but they are league records nonetheless. And judging by the first four seasons, this club isn’t likely to set any positive league records. Eventually this team has to get better, because it can’t get much worse, and looking back at these days will only make those more enjoyable.

The 2018 Orlando City season has been very negative. There hasn’t been much to look forward to for a few months. With only three games remaining in the season, you might have checked out already and are focusing on other sports. Despite the negativity of watching the team play, there are some reasons why you might want to check out the remaining few games.
