Orlando City Trades PC to Vancouver for a Third-Round Draft Pick

Orlando City has traded Victor “PC” Giro to the Vancouver Whitecaps for a third-round draft pick in the 2019 SuperDraft. Jordan Culver of ProSoccerUSA.com first reported this. This move comes less than two weeks after Orlando City exercised PC’s contract option. 

“PC is good technically, he’s aggressive, he’s fast, and he has a lot of culture in his game,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos. “We believe in the qualities he has.”

The Brazilian left back came to Orlando in 2017 after he signed a four-year deal. A year before that, PC knocked the Lions out the U.S. Open Cup. The 24-year-old played in 18 games for Orlando — 12 starts — in two years. He scored one goal, bagged one assist, and was given four yellow and two red cards. His lone goal was in the Lions’ 3-0 win against Miami United FC in the U.S. Open Cup. 

What This Means for Orlando City

PC made just $95,312.50 last year, and so this move does not affect the salary cap much. However, every little bit helps. With Donny Toia’s option not exercised and Mohamed El-Munir rumored to be on the move, it appears that Orlando City was not happy with the left backs on the team. 

There typically is not much quality brought in with a third-round draft pick. It will be interesting to see who the Lions draft with that pick, or if it will be traded away for another asset.
