2019 MLS SuperDraft: Preview, How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, and More
Today is the big day. After months of trades and rumors, the 2019 MLS SuperDraft is set to take place in Chicago, IL. A little bit under 100 college players will be drafted and attempt to make it in Major League Soccer.
The truth is that most players drafted will end up on United Soccer League teams. There are a small handful of players that could contribute right away, but the odds of finding another player like Atlanta United’s Julian Gressel are slim.
Still, Orlando City has had success in previous years in the draft. The Lions’ most notable drafted players that came through this process are Cyle Larin and Chris Mueller. Larin broke numerous Orlando City and MLS records in his time in Orlando, and picked up the 2015 MLS Rookie of the Year award. Mueller was a 2018 MLS Rookie of the Year finalist and the winger also finished the year with the second most assists among Lions.
Today’s draft will be for just the first and second round. The final two rounds will be completed on a different day and time via conference call. The order of the draft is determined based on last season’s results, in inverse order of the place in which teams finished the season. FC Cincinnati has the the first overall pick, as is customary for expansion teams. The complete draft order can found here.
