Orlando City B announced its roster this afternoon for the 2019 USL League One regular season. Led by Head Coach Fernando de Argila Irurita, the roster is made up of 22 players, ranging in age from 15 to 23 and with an average age of 19.5 years.

The team will feature six players from the Orlando City Development Academy, nine players who are attending the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy (SIMA), and two additional players that played for the Premier Development League team, SIMA Aguilas. The players out of the academy are Austin Amer, Jordan Bender, Ates Diouf, Jahlene Forbes, Luc Granitur, and Moises Tablante. Additionally, Ignacio Cubeddu, Luca Mancuso, Matheus Silva, and Rafael Santos attended SIMA. Brandon John and Randy Mendoza are also on the roster and played for the Aguilas in the PDL.

Recently, de Argila Irurita and General Manager Mike Potempa had a trip to Brazil to see multiple Brazilian youth teams. They returned with four young players that will represent the Young Lions this season. Three of those were 20-year-olds from Orlando City’s partner club Clube Athletico Paranaense — Juliano Chade, Thiago De Souza, and Leonardo Silva Simas. They also brought back Sergio Costabile, a 19-year-old midfielder from Sport Club Corinthians.

“We are very excited to work with this talented group of young players,” Potempa said through a club press release. “We’ve worked extremely hard to sign athletes we believe have the potential to one day play for the first team utilizing our professional training environment and competitive match structure within USL League One.”

The youngest player on the Young Lions this year will be 15-year-old Orlando City Development Academy graduate Granitur, while the oldest will be John, Koby Osei-Wusu, and Santos, who are 23 years of age. Nine of the players on the roster have represented their youth national teams in the past: Bender (USA), Chade (Brazil), Costabile (Brazil), Forbes (USA), Granitur (USA), Christian Herrera (U.S. & Mexico), John (Canada), Osei Wusu (Ghana), and Wilfred Williams (USA).

The young team will take the field for its first regular season game of 2019 on March 30 when it takes on FC Tucson at Montverde Academy.
