Orlando City B vs Toronto FC II: Preview and How to Watch

Published

on

It was a tough start for Orlando City B in the new USL League One. Hosting FC Tucson at Montverde Academy, the Young Lions gave up a pair of goals in the first half and had Randy Mendoza sent off, spending the entire second half a man down. Despite a solid performance by Koby Osei-Wusu, including a nice second-half goal, the Lions fell 3-1 in their season opener.

The team will look to rebound tonight when it takes on Toronto FC II, another MLS development team and one of two teams with a younger average age. While OCB features 16-year-old Luc Granitur, Toronto features a pair of 16-year-olds in Jayden Nelson and Ralph Priso, as well as 14-year-old Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty, the youngest player in professional American soccer.

Toronto FC II didn’t take part in the league’s opening weekend last week so the young Reds have yet to play a game. One of the most difficult parts of the 2019 season for OCB will be playing against teams that are much older and experienced. Toronto should be a much more even match-up, as the Reds have the same style of roster construction as the Young Lions.

This will be the fifth time overall that OCB has taken on Toronto FC II. The two teams faced off as members of the USL — now USL Championship — twice in 2016 and 2017. The teams split the four games with the home team winning each one. OCB won 2-1 in Melbourne in 2016 and 3-1 in Orlando in 2017. Toronto took its home games, 2-1 and 1-0.
