The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Sepp Blatter’s Watches, Orlando City’s Schedule, and More

If you listened to The Mane Land PawedCast, then you know that it was not a great weekend for those in purple, but that doesn’t mean I can’t find interesting items to keep us occupied. Let’s get to it!

The Good

Sepp Blatter left multiple high-end watches in his office at FIFA when he departed amidst scandal. Now, he wants them back. I absolutely love the fact that FIFA is potentially keeping those watches out of the hands (or off the wrists) of Blatter. I’m not talking about three or four watches, or even a dozen. There are around 80 expensive brand name watches in FIFA’s care. Blatter intends to include them in his lawsuit against the soccer federation. I don’t usually root for FIFA, but Blatter is just the guy to let me do so. My only question is: how will he know when it’s time to give up?

The Bad

Orlando City has three matches in eight days starting this Sunday at Atlanta and four in 13 days overall. We all enjoyed how Atlanta United FC started out the season quite poorly, but lately the team has seemingly found some form. Just in time for the Lions to head to town. Orlando has yet to beat Atlanta, and this weekend won’t be any easier given the Lions lack of goal scoring. Next up, Orlando has to travel across the country to take on the Seattle Sounders next Wednesday. Such a road trip is never an easy one. Finally, the Lions turn around and head home to take on FC Cincinnati. Granted, FC Cincinnati just fired its coach, and is near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Orlando should still be expected to win that match, but the Lions will be playing their third match in eight days after traveling across the country twice.

The Ugly

There was only one choice for ugly this week. Ugly is the other side of the coin from beautiful, and Liverpool’s comeback win was a thing of beauty. Barcelona won the first leg of the Champions League semifinal tie, 3-0, thanks in large part to the great Lionel Messi. Messi scored two of Barcelona’s three goals, including a masterful free kick. Heading into the second leg, there should have been no way that Liverpool could overcome a 3-0 deficit against a team with Messi. However, that is exactly what happened. A Liverpool team missing Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino found four goals from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum, while keeping a clean sheet to give Barcelona and the Spanish team’s supporters a very ugly loss.
