USA vs. Trinidad & Tobago, 2019 Gold Cup: Preview, How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, and Match Thread
Welcome to your match thread as the United States Men’s National team takes on Trinidad and Tobago in the teams’ second match of the 2019 Gold Cup.
This is the first time since 2007 that the teams will meet in the Gold Cup. The Yanks are undefeated against Trinidad and Tobago in the Gold Cup and have outscored The Soca Warriors 7-3 in three matches.
The U.S. is 18-3-4 all-time against Trinidad and Tobago, however, everyone remembers the last meeting. After the Americans dismantled Panama in Orlando, the U.S. needed at least a draw to qualify for the World Cup. However, the Yanks fell to the island nation and failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986.
Almost two years removed from that match, U.S. soccer has heavily changed. Gregg Berhalter will look to continue to move the nation forward and improve upon his style and philosophy.
In the last match, the U.S. beat Guyana 4-0. Tyler Boyd, Weston McKennie, and Paul Arriola had excellent games for the Americans and will likely feature again. Jozy Altidore could get the start tonight and should take Gyasi Zardes’ spot. Zardes has been poor in recent games and lacked a killer instinct in front of the net against Guyana, despite scoring an accidental goal off his face.
Trinidad and Tobago comes off a 2-0 loss to Panama. After a dull, goalless first 45 minutes, Panama came out of halftime strong. Armando Cooper and Édgar Bárcenas scored in the second half to lift Panama over the Soca Warriors and take the three points. Orlando City goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh did not feature.
In all likelihood, a win for the Americans will seal a spot in the knockout round. The Yanks need to win and for Panama to beat Guyana in order to advance. As for Trinidad and Tobago, a defeat would end any hopes of making the next round. A draw would still keep the Soca Warriors alive, however.

- Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
- Try not to be the person who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It’s OK to be critical, and, let’s face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
- Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players and/or officials. You never know who might be reading.
- Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we’d rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.
Enjoy the match! Go America!
