Welcome to your match thread as the United States Men’s National Team takes on Mexico in the Concacaf Gold Cup final. The match will be played in Chicago at 9 p.m. ET (FS1, Univision).

The U.S. and Mexico have a storied history as fierce North American rivals. The two teams have played on 68 previous occasions — the most the Yanks have played against any opponent. The U.S. has not done well historically, holding a record of just 20-37-14. The Yanks won the first-ever meeting, 4-2 on May 24, 1934, but then went winless in the next 26 matches. Recent history has been much closer, though, as the Yanks hold a record of 14-7-6 since 2000.

The U.S. won the last meeting, 1-0. Tyler Adams scored the lone goal under Interim Head Coach Dave Sarachan’s side back on Sept. 11, 2018. El Tri is the most successful team in Gold Cup history. Mexico has won the tournament seven times, and the U.S. six.

Mexico beat Haiti 1-0 to get the final. It was a mostly disappointing night for El Tri but they were able to advance via a Raul Jimenez penalty kick in extra time. Jimenez is second in the Golden Boot race (5), one behind Canada’s Jonathan David.

The Yanks are coming off a 3-1 win over Jamaica. After a couple of disappointing Gold Cup performances, Gregg Berhalter chose to start Jozy Altidore and Jordan Morris. It took just nine minutes for Weston McKennie to break the deadlock after good ball movement from the U.S. Christian Pulisic earned a brace as the Yanks won the semifinal battle.

Tata Martino leads Mexico and brought a young, domestic team to the competition. Fourteen members of the 23-man squad play for Mexican club teams, while eight players have 10 or fewer caps. Similarly, Berhalter called up 17 MLS players, and 13 men on the roster have 15 or fewer caps.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you’re new, welcome to our happy home! While you’re here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be the person who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It’s OK to be critical, and, let’s face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players and/or officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we’d rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match! Go America!
