Top Items in the NWSL’s Breast Cancer Charity Auction

In case you missed the announcement Wednesday evening, the Orlando Pride announced they would host their first ever Breast Cancer Awareness Match on Oct. 12.

After defender Toni Pressley shared with the world that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and underwent surgery, support came rolling in. We saw clubs from all over the country share social media posts wishing her the best, but it doesn’t stop there. Pressley was able to choose a charity that means a lot to her for which to raise funds. The chosen non-profit, Libby’s Legacy is located right here in Orlando. The organization works to inform, educate, and provide mammogram and patient support for underserved women in the area.

Pride players will wear special, pre-match kits which will be auctioned off and the Den, along with Fanatics, will offer special merchandise items with proceeds heading to Libby’s Legacy.

I mean, I’m choosing purple over pink most days of the week, but pink always holds a special place in my heart during the month of October, and that scarf is so pretty!

Perhaps the most exciting thing we’re seeing out of the league is the auction being led by the Chicago Red Stars. They were more than ecstatic to help support another NWSL player and help support the cause. At the time of this writing, all nine NWSL teams have donated items to the auction which currently has almost 180 items up for grabs. So of course, I’m here to break down my top-five favorites that are sure to be big money makers for the organization.

Ali Krieger Signed T-Shirt

The USWNT and Orlando Pride star has signed a USWNT player t-shirt that is already over $500 across 13 bids! She’s a fan favorite and if her brother had his way, she’d probably be queen of the world— I’d support that!

Marta Signed Brazilian Jersey

The Brazilian World Cup record breaker has signed a jersey for Brazil that was worn during the 2019 tournament. At the time of this writing it’s already at $500. I can only imagine that the bids will continue to climb on this one.

Megan Rapinoe Signed Jersey

The breakout star from the USWNT has signed a Reign FC jersey from the 2019 season and it’s already up to $500. How high do you think it will climb by Oct. 11?

Christen Press Print

Only 10 copies of this 2017, 16 x 20 print from photographer Jason M. Peterson exist and you can get one of them signed! Prepare to pay, it’s already over $800.

Toni Pressley Cleats

Toni was the inspiration behind the awareness campaign. She’s Florida born, Florida raised, and a member of our very own Pride. The signed cleats may not go for as much as some of the other items, but it’s one that I’m most excited about.

I’m sure you’re wondering why I didn’t mention the Alex Morgan item. That’s because there isn’t one — there are five! She’s a clear crowd favorite around globe, so I’m sure her items will generate a lot of amazing funds for the cause.

As a woman, this gesture from the club and the league means a lot to me, but as someone who has lost a woman that meant a lot to me, and even more to one of my best friends, I’m so grateful. It’s hard to believe that in the year 2019 there’s still not a cure. So come out to the match, buy a new shirt or scarf, and bid on the auction items if you can. The auction will close on Oct. 11. As for me? I’ll be the one over there with the pink pen, the pink notebook, the chart paper with the pink ribbon, and more.
