Lion Links: 9/22/19
Happy Sunday, everyone. I hope you’re recovering well from the pair of exciting Orlando City games yesterday. Last night was a difficult one as Orlando City and OCB both suffered defeats. Here are a few Lion Links to get your Sunday started this morning.
Orlando City Suffers a tough Defeat in Houston
The Lions took the lead in the sixth minute with a Dom Dwyer goal but were unable to maintain their lead for the next 84 minutes. Houston substitute Memo Rodriguez changed things, resulting in a quick pair of goals for the hosts late in the game. Given other results around the Eastern Conference, the 2-1 loss puts Orlando City in an even worse position.

A solid first half resulted in a 1-1 score at the half but the Young Lions had few chances in the second 45 minutes. They were unable to respond to an early second-half goal and fell, 2-1. It was the team’s 10 straight loss and its 14th loss in the last 15 games.

The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup golden ball winner told BeinSport that she’s interested in moving to Europe, with Spain being her chosen country. She mentioned Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, which have dominated the women’s game in that country. However, she said that Barcelona is her top destination.
Adama Diomande Leaves LAFC
LAFC striker Adama Diomande has left the team, labeling “personal issues” as the reason. MLS announced that the striker entered the league’s substance abuse and behavioral health program voluntarily. He will not be able to play in the league until he is cleared by doctors following an evaluation period.
Record Performance by Manchester City
On Saturday morning, Manchester City put on a show against Watford, scoring eight goals in an 8-0 drubbing. The win ties Tottenham Hotspur’s 9-1 win over Wigan Athletic in 2009 for the second highest margin of victory. The record was set in 1995 when Manchester United beat Ipswich Town, 9-0.
