Lion Links: 10/17/19
Happy Thursday, Mane Landers! We are well on our way to making it through another week. Let’s go ahead and jump to the links.
Marta Wins Goal of the Week
They don’t call her the GOAT for no reason! Marta’s first-touch shot late in the match against Reign FC off a deflected set piece helped the Pride get a draw. That strike has won the NWSL’s Goal of the Week.

Two Lions Among MLS Best-Selling Jerseys for 2019
The MLS store has released a list of the 25 best selling jerseys of 2019 and two Orlando City players are among the leaders. Nani checked in with the ninth-best selling jersey of the year, while Dom Dwyer’s shirt came in at No. 21. Topping the list you’ll find Zlatan Ibrahimović, Joseph Martinez, Carlos Vela, Wayne Rooney, and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Canadian Men’s National Team Stays Humble
Canada’s historic win is certainly something for the team to celebrate, but the team is staying humble and focused on repeating its success next month, at Exploria Stadium. Orlando City defender Kamal Miller talked about the rematch.
“I feel that the tides are turning a little bit, just tonight is one win. We’re on baby steps. But we’re looking at taking another step Nov. 15. We’re going to prepare well for that game again. It’s going to be a new game, a new challenge. We’re going to go in there looking to do the same.”
Gil Named MLS Newcomer of the Year
New England Revolution Midfielder, Carles Gil, was named the 2019 MLS Newcomer of the Year yesterday. Gil joined the Revolution from Spanish side Deportivo de La Coruña last winter as a Designated Player. He scored 10 goals and added fourteen assists on the season. In his first year in MLS, Carles Gil played in all 34 of New England’s matches, missing only eight total minutes.
