USA vs. Cuba, Concacaf Nations League: Preview, How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, and Match Thread

Welcome to your live thread as the United States Men’s National Team takes on Cuba in the Cayman Islands in the final match of Concacaf Nations League Group A play. The USMNT beat Cuba 7-0 in the Yanks’ first match of the tournament. Then, Canada pulled a surprise upset, beating the U.S. 2-0 in Toronto. The Yanks responded with a 4-1 win over their neighbor’s last week right here in Orlando, and now are in a prime position to win the group.

Canada leads the group with nine points through four games. Les Rouges beat Cuba 6-0 in Canada, 1-0 in Cuba, and the Yanks in Canada, 2-0. Their only loss was last week. Cuba is in last with no wins through three matches.

The U.S. has dominated the all-time series, 11-1-1, against  Los Leones del Caribe. Cuba’s only win came in 1947. It was a commanding 5-2 win in the North American Championship. The teams met again two years later in a World Cup qualifier. The match ended in a 1-1.

The Yanks won the next 11 matches following that draw and outscored Cuba 44-5 in the process. The U.S. had seven shutouts in those 11 games, and only allowed multiple goals per game once. Cuba has not found the back of the net against the Yanks since 2013.

The last time the teams met was in October in the Nations League. The USMNT won emphatically, 7-0, in front of 13,784 fans at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Weston McKennie netted a hat trick and Brad Guzan got his shutout.

This match is going to be the most important game for Gregg Berhalter in his USMNT career, up to this point. Luckily, it is against Cuba. Still, recent history has taught this team to take nothing for granted and the Yanks will surely come out of the gates firing on all cylinders. A win puts the U.S. in first place and a spot in the next round. Any other result and Canada wins the group.
