The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Chances, Viruses, and OCB

Points are points, and I’ll take a draw any time. That being said, I hope Orlando City can get a goal or two this weekend against Colorado. Clean sheets are nice, but you can’t win if you don’t score goals. Let’s take a look at what got me going this week.

The Good

Orlando City might not have scored a goal in the home opener, but it wasn’t from a lack of chances. With nine shots, two on target, and 12 corner kicks, the Lions definitely didn’t lack for opportunities. Yes, it’s unfortunate the club was unable to find that last bit of quality to get three points, but the build up is there. As I said on The Mane Land PawedCast, if the club can continue to create chances like that, the goals will come. The midfield was aggressive in the attack, and it showed in the time of possession, and in the amount of time Orlando was in Real Salt Lake’s half. They also did well pushing the ball in for the attackers. It might take getting Nani and Dom Dwyer back, but the basis is there, and that’s good.

The Bad

The coronavirus is having an impact on many aspects of everyday life both abroad and here at home. For example, at my workplace we’re not able to special order cars for customers due to suppliers’ limited stock. In the world of soccer, Serie A matches have been postponed and matches have been played behind closed doors. Additionally, upcoming UEFA Champions League matches might also be played behind closed doors. Major League Soccer will have to deal with this over the coming months and have even set up a task force to do so. COVID-19 is no joke, so please don’t panic, but do take appropriate cautions. I recommend trying some of these alternatives to shaking hands.

The Ugly

The roster for Orlando City B finally dropped Tuesday, giving us our first look at the new Young Lions. The players are not the reason OCB landed in the “Ugly” section, but rather the lack of communication from the front office concerning OCB. There have been matches played prior to the USL League One season that we only learned about from opposing team Twitter accounts! Why all the secrecy? One of the best ways that a club can garner trust and loyalty from supporters is to be as transparent as possible in regard to all the squads in the club’s infrastructure. That has definitely not been the case with OCB, and I hope that whatever the reason for the lack of communication gets resolved soon.
