Lion Links
Lion Links: 4/25/20
Hello, Mane Landers. I hope you all had a good week despite the rainy weather. I’ve been busy with schoolwork this week and can’t believe the month of April is almost over. It has also been 45 days since we had live sports here, so what have you all been doing to catch up with your loved ones this week? I was on a happy hour Zoom chat with friends drinking responsibly earlier this week. Now, let’s get to the links.
Orlando City’s Latest Classic
Tonight’s Orlando City Classic will be the 2018 match between Orlando City and the New York Red Bulls. The game featured seven goals as Orlando used late-game heroics to beat the Red Bulls 4-3 at home. Miguel Gallardo and company have your match preview to get you excited for tonight’s game and there will be commentary by Will Johnson, Uri Rosell, and Santiago Patino throughout the stream as well.

Nani and Orlando CIty Go All In
Orlando City winger Nani and the club accepted the #allinchallenge. He mentioned in a video that he wants to help raise $100 million to provide food for people in need. The winner would get a one-day contract and train with Nani and the club for the day, along with many other perks.
We’ve accepted the #ALLINCHALLENGE. Watch the video below from @luisnani & click below to learn more. We challenge the @ORLPride. Are you ALL IN?

Nani also went on Instagram Live yesterday to share his passion for math. He was helping his son with his math homework, but apparently his son was not as excited. I can relate since math wasn’t my favorite subject in school either. Regardless, make sure to follow Nani on his Instagram so you can catch him when he’s live.
Ruckus Mourns Passing of Fellow Supporter
Enrique Alicea, a longtime loyal Orlando City supporter and member of the Ruckus supporters group, tragically passed away at the age of 44 after a car accident. I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones. Some members of the Ruckus have started a Go Fund Me page and all proceeds collected will go to assist his family during this incredibly difficult time for them.
If you are at all able, please consider making a monetary donation to assist Enrique’s family in this troubled time. All proceeds will go directly to the family.
We thank you for your generous consideration and support. 💜https://t.co/INmMWRGgKC

Tesho Akindele Interviewed
A Colorado School of Mines sports blog conducted an interview with Orlando City forward Tesho Akindele. The Canadian striker talked about his time at the university working towards an electrical engineering degree and how it helps him problem solve on the field and in the film room. Akindele also went into depth about the use of analytics in MLS, so if you’re into that, then definitely check out the interview.
NWSL Extends Its Training Moratorium
The National Women’s Soccer League announced an extension to the training moratorium until May 15. All NWSL facilities will remain closed except for medical treatment that cannot be performed at home. All applicable stay-at-home orders will be adhered to while the league determines the 2020 season schedule going forward. The Orlando Pride and the other clubs will work with the NWSL medical task force and their team doctors to provide safe guidelines for any player returning to their market on a case-by-case basis.
European Leagues Make More Decisions
In the Netherlands, the Eredivisie made a bold decision by officially cancelling the 2019-2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Ajax, which was on the top of the table thanks to goal difference, will not be the league title. There will be no champion for the season, and, with the season now voided, there will also be no relegation from the Eredivisie nor promotion from the second tier.
Meanwhile in Spain, La Liga has gone in the opposite direction. La Liga President Javier Tebas threatened punishments to clubs that refused to play matches. He also mentioned that promotion and relegation will still happen if the season is not completed and stated the league will likely play without fans until December.

- David Beckham is reportedly in talks with Real Madrid to bring James Rodriguez to Inter Miami CF.
- In an interview with ESPN FC, Zack Steffen said he believes the United States Men’s National Team lacks an identity after the program went a year without a full-time head coach.
That will do it for me today, Mane Landers. Take care of yourselves and I’ll see you next time.
