Orlando City B at South Georgia Tormenta FC: Preview and How to Watch
Orlando City B (0-0-0, 0 points) kicks off its second season in USL League One and fourth season overall tonight when it takes on South Georgia Tormenta FC (0-0-2, 2 points) at 8 p.m. It will be Marcelo Neveleff’s first match in charge of the Young Lions.
OCB is the last team to kick off in USL League One this season, with most teams having played one game and some having already played two. The Young Lions start the 2020 season on the road as they travel north to Georgia to take on Tormenta FC.
The 2019 season was a rough one for OCB as it finished in last place in the third division league. With few players coming from the academy, there has been a large amount of turnover with this year’s roster. Some players left the team while Jordan Bender joined the first team for the 2020 season.
This year’s team has more academy products and a few returning players. Academy products Jahlane Forbes, Austin Amer, Jose Quintero, and Moises Tablante return to the team’s roster for the 2020 season. Orlando City’s 2020 late round draft picks — goalkeeper Austin Aviza and defender Nicholas O’Callaghan — will also join the team for this season as they look to make their way into the club’s first team.
Homegrown product Raul Aguilera joins the team after three years at North Carolina. The midfielder made the bench for a game in 2016 with OCB while still in the academy and is widely seen as a future Homegrown signing. Left back Michael Halliday, 17, will also play for OCB after being signed to an Orlando City Homegrown Player contract on July 15.
While little can be determined about the Young Lions yet since they haven’t played a game, tonight’s opponents have already played twice this season. Tormenta FC kicked off its season on July 25 with a 2-2 draw with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. It followed that game up with a scoreless draw with the Richmond Kickers on Tuesday night.
Tormenta FC returns several key players from last season, including Lucas Coutinho, Marco Micaletto, Mikie Rowe, and star goalkeeper Pablo Jara. OCB fans might recognize Daniel Jackson, who played for the Orlando SeaWolves and joined Tormenta FC for this season.
OCB will aim for a better season on the field and to continue developing players for the first team. That quest begins tonight when it starts its 2020 USL League One season in Georgia.
