Orlando City B vs. South Georgia Tormenta FC: Preview and How to Watch

Orlando City B (1-3-1, 4 points) returns home tonight to host South Georgia Tormenta FC (2-3-2, 8 points) at Osceola County Stadium. OCB has lost two straight games after defeating New England Revolution II and drawing against Fort Lauderdale CF early in the season.

OCB had a strong start to the season after beating New England Revolution II 2-0 and drawing Fort Lauderdale CF 1-1. With hopes high that the Young Lions would be more successful on the field than last year, they’ve experienced a difficult two weeks. Last Tuesday, the young team was thoroughly dominated by FC Tucson, losing 4-1. Then on Sunday, they were defeated 3-1 at Forward Madison FC.

In a game that was marred by an hour and 45 minute lightning delay, OCB was much better in the first half than the second. After out-shooting the Flamingos 7-3 in the first half, the Lions were out-shot in the second, 12-8. The game did see a goal by Orlando City Development Academy product Mason Lamb, who made his professional debut after Rollins College postponed its fall athletics schedule.

This will be the second time that OCB and Tormenta FC have faced off this season. The first game for OCB this year took place in Statesboro, GA against the same team on Aug. 1. It was a tough 2-0 loss for the Young Lions as they held only 39% possession and were out-shot 24-8. The hosts of that game had nine shots on target while OCB didn’t have one.

Part of that was the fact that many OCB players played their first professional game that night. Debuts were made by Austin Aviza, Michael Halliday, Nick O’Callaghan, Julian Kennedy, and Wilfredo Rivera. The 16-year-old Rivera had a breakout game, becoming known to Orlando City fans for the first time.

Tormenta FC has played four games since the last time these two teams met, winning one and losing three. That included a 2-1 loss to the newest team in the league, Fort Lauderdale CF, at home Aug. 8. The most recent game Tormenta played this season was a 2-1 win over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Saturday.

The biggest concerns for OCB on the defensive end will be Nil Vinyals and Marco Micaletto. Vinyals scored both goals in the first game between the two teams, while Micaletto has been the driving force for Tormenta since. Both players have scored twice this season, leading the team, while Micaletto has created a team-leading 20 chances in seven appearances.

One of the best goalkeepers in the league in 2019, Pablo Jara has had a tough start to 2020, despite a pair of clean sheets. He’s conceded 10 goals in the first seven games and made 15 saves, tying him for fifth among USL League One goalkeepers.

After a rough pair of games, OCB will be looking to claim points against a struggling Tormenta FC team to climb out of last place in the league when the two meet up tonight.
