Worldwide Pride: The Aussies Score and Other Orlando Pride News

It was a busy week for Orlando Pride players. Many countries around Europe had cup matches on Wednesday and so Pride players saw lots of action. A few got on the score sheet, while some impressed in other ways. Emily Sonnett continues to be a defensive force in Sweden, while Claire Emslie continuously improves for Everton.

Below is how all of the players abroad did this past week:

Claire Emslie (Everton — England)

Everton played in two games last week. First up was Manchester City in the Continental League Cup. City beat Everton 3-1, for Everton’s first loss of the year. On Sunday, Everton bounced back, beating West Ham by the same scoreline. Emslie started in both matches and played all but nine minutes in the two games. The Scottish winger was all over the field on Sunday, and provided a beautiful assist on Everton’s first goal of the match. Everton next take on Brighton on Sunday.

Emily van Egmond (West Ham United — England)

It was a tough week for West Ham, which also had a double game week. West Ham tied Brighton 2-2 in the Continental League Cup on Wednesday before advancing on penalty kicks in some brutal weather. You can watch the highlights of the match below, including van Egmond’s penalty kick goal.

Alanna Kennedy (Tottenham — England), Shelina Zadorsky (Tottenham — England), Alex Morgan (Tottenham — England)

Tottenham beat up on London City on Wednesday, and won 4-0. Zadorsky and Kennedy both started, and Kennedy also found the back of the net. She sent a curling free kick into the side netting in the 29th minute.

Spurs then took on Manchester United in league play on Saturday. the match was highlighted by U.S. internationals Tobin Heath and Christen Press making their first WSL starts. They almost made the perfect connection, but the Spurs ‘keeper came up huge with a one-on-one save. United came away with the 1-0 victory after Millie Turner headed in a goal.

Both of the Orlando Pride players got a start for the London-based side, but Kennedy limped off the field after an ankle injury. Alex Morgan did not feature in either of Spurs’ matches last week.

Jade Moore (Atletico Madrid — Spain)

Atletico Madrid drew 1-1 against Granadilla Tenerife on Saturday. Moore started and played 69 minutes. In that time she was 84% on 51 passes, made three recoveries, five tackles, and two interceptions.

Taylor Kornieck (MSV Duisburg — Germany)

Another team with a double game week. However, Duisburg was not very fortunate. First, it fell to Bayern Munich 3-0. All three goals came within an 18 minute span in the first half. Duisburg was back in action a few days later, and this time it was a much closer scoreline. It was a back-and-forth affair, with four lead changes. Selina Cerci scored the game winner in the 73rd minute and Potsdam won, 3-2. Kornieck started in both matches.

Duisburg has yet to win a match through six games (0-4-2, 2 points). The team sits just two points from last place.

Camila (SE Palmeiras — Brazil)

Palmeiras beat Flamengo 1-0 last week. Camila came off the bench in the 65th minute to help see out the victory. The win puts Palmeiras in sixth place. Palmeiras has a double game week coming up with Iranduba on Oct. 14 and Ferroviária on Oct. 19.

Ali Riley (FC Rosengård — Sweden)

Rosengard played two games last week. On Oct. 7 Rosengard took on Eskilsminne and came away with a 3-2 victory. Riley started this midweek game. Four days later, Rosengard fell to Kristianstad, 2-1. Riley entered the match in the 66th minute and a minute later provided an assist. Rosengård is falling behind in the table and is now four points behind Emily Sonnett and Göteborg.

Emily Sonnett (Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC — Sweden)

Speaking of Göteborg, the Swedish side has now won six games in a row. Each of these matches has been a shutout. This past week Göteborg won by a combined goal differential of 10-0. First, Göteborg won 7-0 on Wednesday against Jitex in a cup tie. In league play, Göteborg beat Uppsala 3-0. Sonnett started both matches and played every minute. She was interviewed here about her time in Sweden and the team’s success. Against Uppsala she made seven recoveries, four interceptions, and one tackle. She was also 87% accurate on 94 passes.

Phoebe McClernon (Växjö DFF — Sweden)

McClernon and Vaxjo won their cup tie in the middle of the week. McClernon came off the bench at halftime and helped Vaxjo to a 3-1 victory over Kalmar. Vaxjo also played Pitea this past week in a crucial match for both sides. Vaxjo scored in the 12th minute for the game’s only goal. That win helped push Vaxjo out of the regulation zone. McClernon started and played the full 90.

Erin McLeod (Ungmennafélag Stjarnan — Iceland)

Stjarnan did not play last week.

Carson Pickett (Apollon Ladies FC — Cyprus)

The Apollon Ladies beat Omonoia Women 3-0 on Saturday. Pickett did not feature but here are some photos of the match.
