Worldwide Pride: Emily van Egmond Nets a Header and Other Orlando Pride News

Scott Carnevale is out on special assignment (not really, but it sounds cool, doesn’t it?) and I’m happy to fill in to bring you news of Orlando Pride players as they ply their trade around the world. Oftentimes these matches are available to watch, and with no MLS matches this coming weekend, you might want to check them out.

Below is how all of the players abroad did this past week:

Claire Emslie (Everton — England)

Everton lost its first match in league play, getting rocked 4-0 by Chelsea. Emslie played the full match, and while she didn’t score, she did earn a set piece for the Toffees, though they couldn’t capitalize. She also earned a yellow card in the 64th minute. Everton will take on Reading this coming Saturday.

Alanna Kennedy (Tottenham — England), Shelina Zadorsky (Tottenham — England), Alex Morgan (Tottenham — England),

Alanna Kennedy and Shelina Zadorsky both started in Spurs’ match against Reading on Saturday, and Alex Morgan finally made her debut. Coming on in the 70th minute, Morgan wasn’t able to get her club a win, as Tottenham played Reading to a 1-1 draw. Of course, that may have had something to do with Reading putting a defender figuratively on her back from the time she came on. Zadorsky played the full match despite taking a hit to the face in the 42nd minute. Kennedy put in a good shift and was subbed off in the 64th minute.

Emily van Egmond (West Ham United — England)

Emily van Egmond continued her good form Sunday, putting in a beautiful, match-winning header against Birmingham City in the 73rd minute. The Hammers’ 2-1 victory was the club’s first in five matches. West Ham’s other goal was an own goal from Claudia Walker in the 43rd minute.

Jade Moore (Atletico Madrid — Spain)

Jade Moore started in Atletico Madrid’s 0-0 draw with Sporting Huelva. She was subbed off in the 58th minute for Amanda Sampedro. Atletico now sits on top of the table at 14 points through six matches, however, Barcelona has two games in hand and is only two points behind.

Taylor Kornieck (MSV Duisburg — Germany)

Duisburg lost 3-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. Taylor Kornieck played all 90 minutes, but was unable to help Duisburg get on the scoreboard. Duisburg has now lost four matches in a row and sits just above Meppen at the bottom of the table.

Camila (SE Palmeiras — Brazil)

Palmeiras drew 0-0 with Corinthians in the first leg of the semifinals of the Brasileirão Feminino. Camila played all 90 minutes for Palmeiras, but was unable to get a goal as she did in the last match. The second leg is scheduled for Nov. 16.

Ali Riley (FC Rosengård — Sweden)

Rosengård won a second straight match to maintain second place in the Damallsvenskan. Ali Riley’s Rosengård beat Piteå 3-0, with all the goals coming in the second half. Riley played all 90 minutes. Rosengård will meet Växjö DFF next Sunday.

Emily Sonnett (Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC — Sweden),

Göteborg continued to demolish the Damallsvenskan competition with a 7-0 victory over Linköping to remain in first place with a four-point gap over Rosengård. Sonnett played the full 90 minutes. Göteborg’s next match is on Sunday against Vittsjö but Sonnett’s side has already clinched the title and a spot in the 2021-2022 Champions League.

Phoebe McClernon (Växjö DFF — Sweden)

Växjö DFF got back on the winning side, defeating Eskilstuna 2-0 on Saturday. Phoebe McClernon played all 90 minutes, helping her club get the clean sheet. Växjö DFF plays Rosengård this coming Sunday.

Erin McLeod (Ungmennafélag Stjarnan — Iceland)

Erin McLeod played all 90 minutes of Stjarnan’s 1-1 draw against Fylkir. Stjarnan sits mid-table with 18 points. Of course, top of the table Breidablik has 42 points, so there’s that.

Carson Pickett (Apollon Ladies FC — Cyprus)

Last Wednesday, Pickett’s Apollon won their qualifying round match against Swansea 3-0, however Pickett didn’t play. The Apollon Ladies followed that up with a 4-0 victory over Karmiotissa Chrysomilia on Sunday in Cypriot First Division. They take on champions Ypsona on Sunday, and then Górnik Łęczna in the second qualifying round in the Champions League on Nov. 18.
