Worldwide Pride: Alex Morgan Returns to the USWNT and Other Orlando Pride News

There were barely any matches last week because of the international break. I covered the past two weeks instead. All of the players who played in Sweden — Ali Riley, Emily Sonnett, and Phoebe McClernon — should be returning home as the Damallsvenskan season has ended.

Alex Morgan and Sonnett played for the United States Women's National Team on Friday. The pair helped the U.S. to a 2-0 win over the Netherlands. Both came on as substitutes. This was Morgan’s first game for the national team since the 2019 World Cup final. While Morgan’s return was a big talking point of the match, just as big has been Portland Thorns forward Sophia Smith and Florida State midfielder Jaelin Howell making their first caps. Another big moment was midfielder Kristie Mewis scoring a goal in her first international match since 2014.

Morgan put the ball in the net but was just offside on the play, so it was waved off. Here are the highlights from the match:

Here’s how the rest of the Pride players did in the past two weeks, as well as an update on the WSL league table.

Claire Emslie (Everton — England), Emily van Egmond (West Ham United — England), Shelina Zadorsky (Tottenham — England), Alex Morgan (Tottenham — England)

There were no WSL games last week. Manchester United currently sits atop the table with 17 points through seven matches. Bristol City is in last with one point and is joined with Tottenham as the only two teams without a win. Everton (4-1-2, 14 points) is in fourth place and West Ham United (1-5-1, 4 points) is in ninth.

Jade Moore (Atletico Madrid — Spain)

After a 4-1 victory over Real Betis, Atletico beat Deportivo de La Coruña 8-1 on Nov. 22. Jade Moore did not score, however, she played the full 90 minutes. Atletico is in first place with 20 points.

Taylor Kornieck (MSV Duisburg — Germany)

Duisburg lost again, this time 6-1 to SGS Essen on Nov. 21. Kornieck played the full 90.

Camila (SE Palmeiras — Brazil)

Palmeiras had two wins in the past two weeks. Palmeiras beat Sao Jose by a combined score of 3-0 in the two matches.
