Worldwide Pride: Alex Morgan Scores and Other Orlando Pride News

The big news this week is obviously Alex Morgan finding the back of the net. It was her first goal since July 2, 2019, when she scored the USWNT’s game-winner against England in the World Cup semifinals. It was her first club goal since Aug. 25, 2018. The Pride fell to the Chicago Red Stars 3-1 in that match.

Here’s how the rest of the Pride players did last week:

Shelina Zadorsky (Tottenham — England), Alex Morgan (Tottenham — England)

As previously mentioned, Morgan scored her first goal for Spurs. That was not just the story of the match, but one of the stories of the weekend. Morgan scored from the spot in the 84th minute and then substituted out in the 85th. You can view her goal in the tweet below. Morgan finished the match with four shots, two on target, and a 75% passing accuracy. Both Zadorsky and Morgan started, as well as former Pride defender/midfielder Alanna Kennedy. Spurs won 3-1 over Brighton. It was Tottenham’s first win of the season.

Claire Emslie (Everton — England),

Everton took on Manchester City on Sunday. Valerie Gauvin, Simone Magill, and Claire Emslie all missed the match for the Toffees. This forced Everton to only have five players on the bench, and Manchester City easily took care of business. City won 3-0 with goals from Ellen White, Gemma Bonner, and Janine Beckie. Everton (4-2-2, 14 points) sits in fifth place. The Toffees will take on Birmingham City on Sunday.

Emily van Egmond (West Ham United — England)

West Ham (1-6-1, 4 points) took on Chelsea on Sunday. West Ham was outshot 26-9 and held just 37% possession. Still, the match was a one-goal game with Chelsea winning 3-2. Sam Kerr netted a hat trick. Emily van Egmond started and played the full 90 minutes. Van Egmond forced a Chelsea own goal and kept West Ham in it until the dying minutes. You can view the complete game highlights here. West Ham face Bristol City on Sunday.

Jade Moore (Atletico Madrid — Spain)

Atletico Madrid took on Athletic Club on Saturday and played to a 3-3 draw. It looked like Atletico was going to walk away with a 3-1 win. But Athletic Club used goals from Lucia Garcia in the 85th and 95th minutes to earn a point. Jade Moore entered the match in the 66th minute and got a yellow card in stoppage time. The result sent Atletico to third place.

Taylor Kornieck (MSV Duisburg — Germany)

Duisburg lost 3-1 to Wolfsburg in the DFB Pokal cup. Kornieck was not on the game day side. Duisburg takes on Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Camila (SE Palmeiras — Brazil)

Palmeiras lost 1-0 to Corinthians on Wednesday. Palmeiras is currently third in its group, two points off the lead.
