Get to know Ivan Angulo, Nashville SC and Inter Miami reach Leagues Cup final, Spain books spot in World Cup final, and more.
Hello, Mane Landers. I hope all is well with you down in Florida. I’ve been staying busy at work and have some friends in town to visit up here in Chicago later this weekend. There is plenty to cover today, so let’s get to the links.
Get to Know Ivan Angulo
Orlando City winger Ivan Angulo was the latest Lion featured in the club’s video series aimed at learning more about the players. Angulo gave insight on his soccer journey that began with Envigado when he was 10 years old and working his way from the youth ranks to the first team. Angulo discussed his willingness to take risks and show no fear when on the field. He said he likes to spend time with his family in his downtime and also shared that he is afraid of spiders.
Leagues Cup Final is Set
Nashville SC took care of business at home against CF Monterrey, scoring twice in the second half to win 2-0 and advance to Saturday’s final. Nashville will host Inter Miami, which beat the Philadelphia Union 4-1 at Subaru Park. As finalists, both teams have qualified for the 2024 Champions Cup. Monterrey was the last Liga MX team remaining in the tournament and will take on the Union in the third-place match on Saturday for a spot in next year’s Champions Cup as well.
Spain Books Spot in World Cup Final
Spain edged out Sweden 2-1 in the Women’s Women World Cup semifinals thanks to a late stoppage-time goal from Olga Carmona to claim a spot in the final. This will be Spain’s first appearance in a Women’s World Cup final. It’s been a great run for Spain to make it this far after a player revolt less than a year ago. For Sweden, it’s another heartbreaking loss in a semifinal after getting there four years ago in France. Spain will play the winner of today’s match between Australia and England in the final on Sunday.
