Orlando Pride vs. Bay FC: Preview, How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, Match Thread, and More
The Pride return home looking to end their three-game losing streak and seven-game winless skid as they welcome Bay FC.
Welcome to your preview and match thread as the Orlando Pride (8-7-4, 28 points) look to end their seven-game winless run against Bay FC (4-10-5, 17 points) at home. This is the second and final time the two teams will meet during the regular season.
Here’s everything you need to know about tonight’s game.
History
Bay FC is one of two expansion teams that entered the NWSL for the 2024 season. The teams have met three times, with the Pride holding a perfect 3-0-0 record.
The most recent meeting was on June 13 in San Jose, CA. The hosts led almost every statistical category, but the Pride defense held strong until Barbra Banda scored in the 58th minute. They withstood attack after attack, coming away with a hard-fought 1-0 win.
The teams met twice last year with the first-ever game between these two teams occurring on May 11. Just prior to the half-hour mark, Banda dribbled inside and Deyna Castellanos attempted an ill-advised challenge, resulting in a foul in the box and a Pride penalty. Adriana put the ball into the bottom left corner for the only goal, lifting the Pride to a 1-0 win. It was the sixth win in an NWSL-record, eight-game win streak.
The teams met for the second time on Sept. 20. It looked like the game might be headed for a scoreless draw until Banda got her head on the end of a Carson Pickett cross, redirecting it past Katelyn Rowland to give the Pride the 1-0 win.
Overview
The Pride have had a tough go of it recently, dropping points in each of their last seven league games. In fact, the team’s last win in NWSL action was the 1-0 victory over Bay FC on June 13. They beat LD Alajuelense 3-0 on Sept. 2 in the Concacaf W Champions Cup, but that was against an opponent from a far inferior league.
The Pride hit rock bottom Sunday afternoon when they fell 5-2 to the Chicago Stars in Evanston, IL, against a team they beat 6-0 to start the season. It was only Chicago’s second win of the year and first at home. Coincidentally, the other win was against Bay FC.
The Pride scored multiple goals for the first time since their 3-1 win over the Utah Royals on May 23, but the usually sound defense negated the offensive effort by conceding more than two goals for the first time this year. Orlando has conceded seven times in the last two league matches.
The loss extended the Pride’s winless streak in the league to seven games, dating back to their 2-0 loss to Racing Louisville on June 20. They’re 0-4-3 and on a three-game losing streak in NWSL action.
Tonight, the Pride face a team they should beat in Bay FC, though they’ve drawn or lost several games recently they should’ve won. The California-based team has just four wins this year and they haven’t tasted victory since beating the Portland Thorns 1-0 on June 7. Today’s visitors are currently on a four-game losing streak.
While the Pride have struggled offensively this year — scoring just 24 goals — Bay FC has even more so, netting just 21 goals this year. That places Bay 13th in the 14-team league.
The club hasn’t been much better defensively, conceding 29 goals. Only four teams have conceded more goals in the league. These stats should give the Pride a good opportunity to come away with all three points, but there likely isn’t much confidence from the fanbase after the debacle in Illinois.
Bay FC is led in the attack by Penelope Hocking, who has five goals on the year. Caroline Conti has three, and Kiki Pickett, Karlie Lema, Racheal Kundananji, Taylor Huff, and Rachel Hill each have two goals this year, rounding out the players with multiple goals. Kundananji and Conti also lead the team with three assists, alongside Alyssa Malonson.
The Pride are missing three players for this game, with Banda (hip), Kylie Nadaner (excused absence), and Carson Pickett (excused absence) all missing. Additionally, Emily Sams (arm) is listed as questionable. Bay FC will be without Abby Dahlkemper (maternity leave), Onyeka Gamero (knee), Hocking (lower leg), Melissa Lowder (knee), and Emily Menges (maternity leave).
