Lion Links: 4/7/26
Haley McCutcheon and Seb Hines recognized, Americans in midweek action, Patrick Agyemang injured, and more.
Good morning, everyone. It was a mixed bag for Orlando’s soccer teams over the weekend, as the Orlando Pride secured a dramatic late win, while Orlando City took yet another brutal beating at the hands of LAFC. The Pride are sitting in sixth after five matches, while the less said about the Lions’ place in the standings, the better. The only way out is through though, so tighten your belts, batten down the hatches, and damn the torpedoes. We’ve got a lot to discuss this morning, so let’s get into today’s links.
Haley McCutcheon, Seb Hines Honored
Haley McCutcheon played a key role in the Orlando Pride’s thrilling 2-1 win over Angel City FC on Saturday. Not only did the midfielder open the scoring in the 84th minute, but she scored the winner deep into stoppage time when she forced home a loose ball after a dangerous free kick from Marta. McCutcheon has been justly rewarded for her match-winning efforts with a nomination for the NWSL Player of the Week. Make sure you go vote for her!
If that wasn’t enough, McCutcheon was also named to the W Golazo NWSL Team of the Week, while Seb Hines was named the manager of the side. Here’s hoping that this isn’t the last time!
Americans in Midweek Action
There are a number of Americans who will be playing games during the working week, and the action is extremely varied. Things get going tonight when Alejandro Zendejas and Club America travel to Nashville SC in the Concacaf Champions Cup, while Jordan Morris, Jesus Ferreira, Cristian Roldan, and the Seattle Sounders travel to Tigres in the same competition on Wednesday. Thursday then has Chris Richards and Crystal Palace hosting Fiorentina in the UEFA Conference League. The week wraps up with lots of Ligue 1 action on Friday, as Folarin Balogun and Monaco face Paris FC, while Tim Weah and Marseille will host Metz.
Patrick Agyemang Injured
One American already played in a match on Monday, and sadly it didn’t go well as Patrick Agyemang left Derby County’s match against Stoke City on a stretcher in the first half. The big striker went down without contact as he had jumped to control a ball, but he landed awkwardly. He seemed to be having issues in the ankle area, and Derby manager John Eustace confirmed that Agyemang will undergo imaging to determine the severity of the injury. The timing of the injury couldn’t be any worse, as the former Charlotte FC striker has seemingly placed himself firmly in the picture for the United States Men’s National Team’s World Cup squad, and unless the issue is truly a minor one, his hopes of featuring at this summer’s tournament may be in jeopardy.
Transfer Rumor Roundup
We’ve got a number of interesting transfer rumors to sort through this morning, so let’s dive in. We start with Liverpool, which is said to be optimistic about signing Ibrahima Konate to a contract extension despite Real Madrid showing interest in the center back. Speaking of Liverpool, reports have emerged of a potential swap deal between the Merseyside outfit and Al Hilal, which would see Mohamed Salah join the Saudi Arabian club while Marcos Leonardo moves the other way. We now move to La Liga, where Barcelona is said to be interested in 23-year-old Kosovan striker Fisnik Aslani, who has nine goals and four assists for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga this year. Finally, Bernardo Silva will seemingly be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season, and Juventus has reportedly contacted his agent in an effort to convince the midfielder to move to Turin.
