Welcome to Orlando, “Fridge.”

Orlando City SC announced today the signing of Brazilian center back Gustavo Silva Conceição, nicknamed “Geladeira” (“The Refrigerator”) due to his size, as the inaugural MLS roster continues to take shape. As per club policy, terms were not disclosed. Gustavo counts as occupying the club’s fifth international slot.

He will likely start next to Aurelien Collin at center back, allowing City to use Heath Pearce at outside back or as depth at any of the four positions along the back line. The 28-year-old (turns 29 in February) is a solid 6-foot-1 and 198 pounds.

"We're very pleased that Gustavo has joined the Club," said Head Coach Adrian Heath in a press release. "He's a tough and willing defender who we believe will be a fantastic complement to our existing core."

Gustavo joins City after seven seasons in Brazil, featuring in over 80 matches for various clubs in the Brazilian top flight, including a three-year stint with Flamengo.

He seems to be a rugged, bone-crunching type out of the back. Check out his highlights.

What do you think of this signing? Are you feeling better about Orlando City's depth on defense?
