MLS Draft 2015: What is Orlando City’s Best Option?

The MLS SuperDraft is just nine days away.

Orlando City SC has the top pick in the draft based on the Expansion Priority Draft held in the fall. But the top selection in the 2015 SuperDraft may end up being an unfortunate year to hold that particular honor.

John told you yesterday about how the dwindling number of underclassmen are creating a bit of a mystery as to who the Lions will take with their top selection. Many believe that Georgetown defender Joshua Yaro would have been the pick – a gifted young player who could see spot duty but wouldn't be rushed into the starting lineup.

With Yaro, and others, off the board, Orlando City has more limited options than it seemed a month ago. Yesterday, Canadian Cyle Larin, widely considered the top forward in the draft, was reported by many on Twitter to have signed his Generation Adidas contract to become part of the SuperDraft.

MLS announced the signing of eight top prospects who are college seniors, including standout midfielder Nick Besler of Notre Dame, the younger brother of Sporting Kansas City defender and U.S. international Matt Besler.

As a new MLS club, Orlando City could take the old "best player available" route with its first pick. That would probably mean the University of Connecticut striker Larin.

However, Larin may have value that can be transferred to the field immediately, even if he is a season or two away from making a full impact on the league. The Brampton, Ontario native would be a boon for any team, but teams such as the Montreal Impact, Toronto FC or Vancouver Whitecaps might be willing to part with a player the Lions could use immediately for the young Canadian with so much upside.

Perhaps they would even part with a useful player plus a selection in a future, more well-stocked draft.

It will be interesting to see what Orlando City does with its top selection. Will it be Larin, Besler, another choice or will the Lions trade the pick?

What do you think they should do? Put on your GM hat and take part in the poll. You can further explain your decision in the comments section below.
