Kaká Named Orlando City Captain

Orlando City SC has its team captain for the inaugural MLS campaign in 2015.

Unsurprisingly, Brazilian superstar Kaká will wear the armband for the 2015 season, after being fitted for it in the preseason run-up to the club’s first year in Major League Soccer. He first wore the captain’s armband against FC Dallas this preseason in his first action with the Lions.

"Kaká has demonstrated great leadership both on the field and in the locker room since the start, and the other players have naturally looked to his guidance throughout preseason, so he was the natural pick to skipper the club," said Head Coach Adrian Heath in a club press release.

"Ricky's role will extend off the pitch as well, serving as the team's liaison with the front office and coaching staff on all player-related concerns to ensure we provide the best possible environment for the players to train, develop and succeed personally and professionally."

The 32-year-old former Ballon d’Or winner has won virtually every trophy available to footballers on the planet, both on the individual and team level. He was on Brazil’s 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning side and has won titles in Spain with Real Madrid and Italy with AC Milan.

Kaká has scored more than 200 goals for club and country in his career. So far this preseason, he has scored two goals and assisted on two others for Orlando City.
