On behalf of all native Ohioans, I'd like to apologize for what happened on Saturday. I'm not sure what got into our sports teams this weekend, but I'm sure we'll return to irrelevance soon.

Trying to Forget About Saturday

So yeah, that happened.

The Lions just had one of those nights in Columbus when nothing seemed to go right. Rafael Ramos lost his temper, Cristian Higuita had an awful giveaway in the box and Donovan Ricketts got chipped on (again). They’ve really got no one to blame for the 3-0 result but themselves.

Louisville City FC Might Never Lose in USL

Orlando City’s USL affiliate in Kentucky got a stoppage time goal from Kadeem Dacres to draw 1-1 with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the Steel City on Sunday evening, avoiding the club’s first ever league loss. A Fejiro Okiomah goal off of a free kick put Louisville City behind for the first time this season but our purple pals pulled it out.

Sebastian Giovinco Puts Toronto on His Back vs. FC Dallas

Anybody who tells you they saw this live is probably lying.

After a a three-hour lightning delay, with his team trailing 3-0 in the 83rd minute, Sebastian Giovinco nearly pulled off one of the great one-man performances in MLS history. In the 82nd minute, Giovinco found the back of the net with an impressive chip off the end line. 3-1 Dallas.

Then, minutes later, Giovinco toed a free kick and the comeback was on…

While Dallas would ultimately hang on and get the win it was an impressive "Welcome to MLS" moment for the man they call formica atomica (the atomic ant).

Montreal's Date With Destiny

MLS's very own Cinderella team is in Mexico this week preparing for Wednesday's CONCACAF Champions League Final against Club América.

The first leg of the final will take place at the Estadio Azteca, one of the most famous soccer venues in the world and a stadium notoriously difficult for away teams. In other words, keep Montreal in your prayers this week.

But it’s also important to appreciate the magnitude of what the Impact are trying to do here. A CCL victory would send Montreal to the FIFA Club World Cup, the same tournament to which the winners of UEFA Champions League earn a ticket, as well as champs from other continents. No MLS team has ever reached the tournament — something that would provide invaluable exposure to the league.
