USA vs. Guatemala 2015 International Friendly: How to Watch, TV Listings, Live Stream, Lineups and Preview

Welcome to your open thread for send-off friendly freedom as we get set to watch the United States Men's National Team take on Guatemala in a tune-up for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The USMNT has to be feeling confident after recent road victories over the Netherlands and World Cup champion Germany, but there have been a lot of roster changes since those matches and this group will have to guard against a let-down as they prepare to try to reach the top of the CONCACAF mountain again. This match takes place just four days before the Gold Cup opener against Honduras in Dallas Frisco, TX.

The Yanks hold a 14-4-6 edge over Guatemala in the all-time series, and are unbeaten in the last 20 meetings, going all the way back to 1988, when (if you were alive) you were probably listening to U2's The Joshua Tree, Paul Simon's Graceland or Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet. Yeah, it's been awhile.

The U.S. hasn't lost to Guatemala outside of Guatemala and only one draw in the series has come on U.S. soil. The Americans hold a commanding 14-0-1 mark against Guatemala at home. The last meeting came prior to the 2013 Gold Cup, when the Red, White & Blue drop-kicked the Central Americans to the tune of 6-0.

All that said, there is no reason for a let-down here. No mercy. Guatemala will try to tread and the U.S. mustn't let them. It's about to get real with the Gold Cup on the line, because if the U.S. wins, it qualifies for the Confederations Cup and if the Yanks lose, they'll have a one-game play-in against whoever does win for that spot. You never want to leave something like that to a must-win game.

Can the Americans find someone to score in a friendly without Bobby Wood in the lineup? Will the Yanks enter the Gold Cup on a positive note? If a pickup truck with an eagle in it delivered a hot dog and an apple pie straight to your door, would that be the most America thing ever? We'll find out the answers to two of those questions tonight.

Go America!

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you're new, welcome to our happy home! While you're here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be “that guy” who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It’s ok to be critical, and, let’s face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we’d rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.
  • Finally, we don’t have a rule against profanity but don’t abuse the non-rule. Also, any language that is sexist, racist, or homophobic in nature will be swiftly deleted and you may lose posting privileges. We’re all in this together.
