Orlando City Still in Contact with Chicharito; Reportedly Offered $10 Million Per Year

The Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez saga continues. We told you the other day about interest from Spanish side Sevilla, but according to the Daily Mail, the La Liga club has prioritized Borussia Dortmund forward Ciro Immobile over the Mexican international, who is currently recovering from a broken collarbone.

The latest from Spanish outlet Mediotiempo has Orlando City stepping up and offering Chicharito the richest MLS contract ever, at a reported $10 million per year. If true, this is definitely in the ballpark of the asking price Paul Tenorio of the Orlando Sentinel reported a few days ago. FOX Sports also picked up the report by Mediotiempo.

Tenorio reported that one source had dropped the chances a deal gets done between Orlando City and Chicharito during the summer transfer window into the single digits. It may still be a longshot, but it appears that the Lions are keeping the communication channels open in case Europe doesn’t work out the way the Hernandez camp wants.

Certainly if this offer report is accurate, it shows Orlando is serious in its interest and players love to be wanted, which could work out in City’s favor later. We knew the Lions were ambitious, but this kind of money (again, with the caveat of if true) proves it.

We know there is still interest in Europe for Hernandez’s services. The most common name that comes up is the EPL side West Ham.

We’ll continue to update this story as it progresses.
