Orlando City Officially Closes Book on Sao Paulo Midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso

Orlando City has issued an official statement on the Ganso negotiations, announcing that its pursuit of the Sao Paulo midfielder is over. A brief press release from the club stated:

Orlando City Soccer Club closes negotiations for Paulo Henrique Ganso due to lack of response from São Paulo FC by the specified deadline. The Club will pursue a collection lawsuit for the non-payment of all the commitments owed by São Paulo FC as part of the loan deal of the player Kaká.

No further comments will be issued on this matter.

This comes on the heels of a report this morning that suggested the Ganso deadline was Monday.

By closing the book now on Ganso, the Lions have two weeks until the summer transfer window closes on Aug. 6 and can now move forward with other potential signings.

While Ganso could have helped with the attacking midfield’s lack of teeth in the final third, he was by no means the only option and it will be interesting to see how GM Paul McDonough and Head Coach Adrian Heath address the club’s needs in this window.

The matter of what Sao Paulo FC owes Orlando City in the wake of the Kaká loan spell is now up to the courts to decide.
