Orlando City Confirms Sean St. Ledger Waived for ‘Serious Breach of Club Policy’

Orlando City officially announced on Saturday morning that defender Sean St. Ledger has been placed on waivers “for a serious breach of club policy.” The club did not give a further explanation, leaving us to wonder what exactly the center back did to cause his sudden dismissal from the team.

Paul Tenorio of the Orlando Sentinel first reported on Friday evening that St. Ledger had been placed on waivers by the club, which was shortly confirmed by The Mane Land.

The timing of this news is far from ideal. Orlando City was forced to recall Conor Donovan from the USL's Pittsburgh Riverhounds (h/t to reader j1066), giving the Lions one center back for the bench. Tommy Redding remains on loan to Wilmington. Meanwhile, recent signing David Mateos won't be ready to join the club until next week, at the earliest.

This puts Adrian Heath’s back line in a tough spot entering the game tonight, with Rafael Ramos and Tyler Turner already carrying knocks into the week and Brek Shea recovering from sports hernia surgery.

The poor timing leads one to believe that whatever club policy St. Ledger breached, it was serious enough that the club had no choice but to ship him off without extending a second chance.

St. Ledger played in 15 games for Orlando City this season after joining the club in the preseason, starting 14. He had started each of the Lions' last five matches.
