U.S. Women’s National Team Will Play Brazil in Orlando

Orlando will play host to the United States Women's National Team at the Citrus Bowl on Sunay, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m., according to the Brazilian team's website. The match has yet to be announced on USSoccer.com.

Assuming the date and time is correct, the USWNT friendly will kick off two hours before Orlando City's regular season finale at Philadelphia Union.

Fresh off a championship in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, the U.S. is hosting a series of friendlies in a 10-match "victory tour" including two August meetings with Costa Rica and a pair of matches in September against Australia. The Orlando match is part of a two-game set against the Brazilians, which includes an Oct. 21 date at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.

The USWNT last played in Florida on June 14, 2014, getting a 1-0 win over France in Tampa. Orlando last hosted the U.S. women on Nov. 11, 2013, a 4-1 win over Brazil in a friendly. Orlando makes sense for a site against Brazil, with the city's large Brazilian population and its popular international tourist attractions.

This game is a big get for the city of Orlando, which continues to pile up the kinds of soccer events capable of making Orlando City Founder and President Phil Rawlins' vision of the City Beautiful as the "Soccer Capital of the South" a reality. Perhaps another #FillTheBowl campaign is in order.

The Citrus Bowl recently hosted an international friendly between Mexico and Costa Rica in the run-up to the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and it will also be the venue for a Sept. 3 friendly between Mexican clubs Cruz Azul and Puebla, as part of "Shares Cup International," to benefit the Florida Hospital Foundation Sharing Smiles program. The pre-Gold Cup international friendly drew more than 53,000 to the Citrus Bowl and more than 40,000 are expected for Cruz Azul-Puebla.

No word yet on whether the Orlando City regular season finale will be shown on the Citrus Bowl jumbotron after the USWNT match, but it would certainly be a nice touch.
