According to soccer website futbolcentroamerica.com, Orlando City is about to get a new trialist from Honduras. Devron Garcia, a 19-year-old defensive midfielder from Club Deportivo Victoria, will supposedly report to Orlando in late January to try to earn a spot with the Lions, although the article doesn’t say whether it will be with the senior club or Orlando City B.

Garcia, who has one cap with the Honduran U-20 national team, reportedly also will have a shot at landing a spot with the NASL’s Miami FC if Orlando isn’t interested.

The 6-foot-3 Garcia also had two caps with his country’s U-17 team and has played some center back in addition to defensive midfield. If signed, he would join countryman Bryan Rochez as Hondurans with the Lions.

The futbolcentroamerica.com report states that Garcia’s agent is trying to negotiate a contract with Orlando City before the player travels to the U.S., although the Lions supposedly would like this to be a trial.

This rumor feels a bit more authentic than what we typically see, however, it certainly seems more of a move designed to pay off in the future. If Orlando City does sign Garcia, it would likely be on an MLS contract, so the player could be moved back and forth to OCB. Acquiring another young, talented and versatile player that can be developed into a quality MLS player and potentially sold in the future would certainly be a good move for Orlando City.

A report by La Tribuna has Garcia scheduled to arrive in Orlando on Jan. 21.
