Brek Shea Still On The Mend

For Brek Shea, 2015 had its shares of ups and downs. One of the downs from last year was a surgery to repair a sports hernia injury in July. While he returned before the end of the season to spark the team into a winning streak, Orlando City still failed to make the playoffs. The end of season instructions for Shea from the team were different from most of the other players. The bottom line from the Lions’ perspective was for Brek to take the off-season to take it easy and let his body fully heal.

Entering the 2016 preseason, Brek has high hopes and looks to be regaining his form. 10 days of training has put him through his paces, and of course due to his restful off-season, he is slightly behind the level of fitness from most of the team; however, Shea is still fully participating in the training sessions. Tuesday, Orlando City held its first practice focusing on fitness and after practice, Brek stated: "I'm better than I was a few months ago, so that's what I'm happy with and I'm taking it day by day."

In some discomfort from the beep test, Brek followed up by saying that his goal is to be pain-free within the month. You can listen to the full interview here.

The team plans to stay in Melbourne this week as it prepares for the Lions’ first preseason closed match on Sunday at Titan Soccer Complex against East Florida State College.
