Orlando City has found a replacement for Darren Powell as the club’s academy director. David Longwell, is leaving his youth development position for Scottish club St. Mirren and joining the Lions.

Although we have received no official word from the club, Longwell announced the move on St. Mirren's website today.

David said: "It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I will be leaving St Mirren Football Club. I would like to thank all our staff, players and fans and everyone associated with St Mirren FC for the support and help I have been given during my time at the club.

"An opportunity has arisen that I feel I couldn't refuse and after much deliberation I have decided to accept the role of Academy Director with Orlando City.

According to the site, seven current first-team players at St. Mirren came up through the club's academy under Longwell. He is expected to stay at St. Mirren until "the end of March" before reporting to Orlando City.

Powell left recently to become head coach for the USL's San Antonio FC. Orlando City also lost top academy coach Jeff Negalha at that time, as he became an assistant coach at Pittsburgh.
