Lion Links: 5/3/16

Well, now that Monday is over with we can move on from the weekend’s Orlando soccer results and concentrate on the good things in life. Such as only having to wait until Friday to see Orlando City take the field at the newly named Camping World Stadium, or OCB taking on USL upstarts FC Cincinnati in Melbourne tomorrow. However, before any of those things, we have today’s Lion Links, so dive on in.

Looking Ahead to the Red Bulls

With Orlando City set to take on the New York Red Bulls on Friday evening, Orlando received a boost yesterday with the news that Kaká should feature in the match-up. City, which is having a torrid time lately, will be hoping that a return to Camping World Stadium and the return of its No. 10 play-maker will see it pick up all three points. Make sure to come back for our official match preview later this week.

One player this game may come too early for is former Lion Aurélien Collin, who was recently traded to the Red Bulls. However, the Frenchman is excited by the trade and believes himself and the Red Bulls are the perfect match.

Leicester are the Champions

After failing to bag the EPL title on Sunday against Manchester United, the title was eventually Leicester City's yesterday after Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 2-2 draw by last year's title winners, Chelsea. How Leicester City has come to win the title is nothing short of miraculous and helps restore some of Claudio Ranieri's image in the eyes of the footballing world, and you can hear from "Tinkerman" himself here. The 5000-1 underdogs have become top dog and it marks the first time since the 1970s that England has a new national champion, and it is the true definition of a Cinderella story.

Instant Replay in USL?

In a strange turn of events this past weekend, it appears that the referee in the FC Cincinnati vs. Wilmington Hammerheads game may have decided to settle the debate about video replay on his own. On a disputed goal in the 47th minute, it appears that when confronted with the possibility that he may have made a bad decision, he decided to watch the replay playing on the in-stadium screens, and then having watched the replay, he made the correct call. So the question is: Have we started the slide down the slippery slope?

Only time will tell, however, with FIFA asking for fans' opinions on the matter and the NCAA approving video replay in collegiate soccer, you can probably expect to find McDonald's sponsoring your MLS video replay before the end of the decade.

Nashville ready to make the step up?

The soccer bandwagon just keeps on running in the good ol' USA. The next city that wants to make the jump to soccer is Nashville. It has been reported that Nashville has become a city of interest for both the North American Soccer League and the United Soccer Leagues as they both continue to amass soccer markets to help them be taken seriously in their inevitable quest to partner with MLS. Regardless of how this all pans out for Nashville, we wish every other team out there luck, as we all continue to grow the beautiful game in the land of the free.
