Orlando Pride Midfielder Lianne Sanderson Invited to Meet British Prime Minister David Cameron

Orlando Pride midfielder Lianne Sanderson will meet with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron. The English international and Pride's No. 10 will visit the government headquarters at Number 10 Downing Street next week, Sanderson posted on social media Tuesday evening.

I am extremely honored to have been invited to meet The Prime Minister Mr David Cameron next week at Number 10 Downing Street. This one is for my family. Especially my mum and dad without there love and support, moments like this would have never been possible. I am so grateful for them. My best and closest friends, you know who you are. My beautiful and amazing girlfriend. For all the coaches and people that have been there for me throughout my career but even more so those that have ever doubted me, media/people/coaches. London is calling. See you next week Mr Cameron

It's a short trip back to England and Sanderson isn't expected to miss any games, according to a spokesperson for the Pride.

Sanderson doesn't know how many, if any, other prominent gay athletes or celebrities have been invited to meet with the prime minister. Cameron, the leader of his country's Conservative party, has been a longtime proponent of marriage equality and appointed the first out lesbian to serve under a Conservative prime minister in May of 2015.

This is huge for Sanderson, a Lewisham, England, native, who leads the Pride in goals — with two, after scoring in both of the club's home matches. After all, it's not every day that NWSL players get to meet a powerful world leader like the British prime minister.

However, we're not sure it isn't Prime Minister Cameron who receives the bigger honor, getting to meet the Pride's No. 10.
