2016 Copa America: Costa Rica vs Paraguay – How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream and More

Published

on

Well, the USMNT got off to a rough start in Group A of the Copa America last night, falling 2-0 to Colombia out in Santa Clara, CA. The other Group A match in the first round of group play takes place right here in Orlando at 5 p.m. at Camping World Stadium.

The winner of today's match between Costa Rica and Paraguay will join Colombia at the top of the group. Alternately, a draw would put the U.S. alone in last place with two group matches left. Costa Rica is the side more likely to battle the U.S. for a spot in the knockout stages, assuming Colombia cruises through. Los Ticos are ranked 23rd in the world in the latest FIFA rankings, while Paraguay comes in at No. 44.

Costa Rica will have to survive without starting goalkeeper Keylor Navas of Real Madrid, who is out with an Achilles injury. One name on the Costa Rica roster familiar to Orlando City fans is defender Ronald Matarrita, who has been a bright spot for New York City FC this season, as well as Vancouver defender Kendall Waston. Los Ticos also have Montreal Impact’s Johan Venegas, who you last saw flopping after a Brek Shea push not long ago in his last trip to Camping World Stadium.

The Costa Ricans have been to Camping World Stadium fairly recently, playing to a 2-2 draw against Mexico in a friendly back on June 27 of last year.

Paraguay’s familiar face to MLS fans is Seattle Sounders forward Nelson Valdez. EPL fans may recognize Bournemouth’s Juan Iturbe, another forward for La Albirroja. One usual name missing for Paraguay is former Bayern Munich and Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz, who was left out of the side.
