Lion Links
Lion Links: 6/20/16
Good Monday morning, Mane Landers. As we do our best to return to our new normal, we can still take comfort in some of the smaller things in life, like our love of soccer, to help in the healing process. I found the tributes extremely moving, and it gave me hope for the future. Being able to watch all the soccer action going on this summer has certainly helped distract me. Now, I hope talking soccer and reading today's links helps you.
Orlando City’s #OrlandoUnited Efforts Spotlighted
The emotional events which led up to the Orlando City match against San Jose were widely covered by national media. NBCSports ProSoccerTalk summed up social media coverage with this piece. All you need is love, indeed. Additionally, ESPN shared the efforts on the tribute during the match including the moment of silence. I still find everything so moving.
Orlando City B Draws NYRBII, 2-2
OCB was back in action in Melbourne last night, hosting New York Red Bulls II. Our Sean Rollins was on hand at Titan Soccer Complex to cover the match and he’s got your match recap. The B side jumped to an early lead on a Devron Garcia goal, but Red Bulls II managed to put two in the back of the net before the end of the first half. With time running out, Pierre Da Silva scored the equalizer for the hosts.
Orlando Pride Player Fights For Homeless Youth
Orlando Pride rookie Christina Burkenroad’s story of struggle and homelessness was highlighted when she was drafted 15th overall and signed in May. She is working within our local community as part of a task force for youth homelessness. Burkenroad hopes she can also bring attention to the upcoming campaign, which rolls out on June 25, when Orlando City plays Toronto FC at Camping World Stadium. For every person who shares #rethinkhomelessyouth on social media, a sponsor will donate $1.
USMNT and Argentina Copa America Talk
Copa America action for the U.S. picks up on Tuesday in Houston at NRG Stadium when they take on Argentina, led by Lionel Messi. The success of the USMNT may have taken Coach Jurgen Klinsmann off the hot seat for the time being and given him confidence in our team's results. Some people might be worried to face the best player in the world and the number one ranked team in the world, but not Klinsmann. It's good to be confident. Argentina seemed confident after their win this last Saturday. It's business as usual for the Albicelestes. We'll be providing coverage on the next USMNT match and our sister site, Stars and Stripes FC, breaks everything down further.
That's all the links I have for today Mane Landers. I'll watching England's match with Slovakia and Wales take on Russia later today, but I felt like closing out links a little differently. Here's some feel good tweets for you. Keep roaring.
We’re proud to represent @CONCACAF in the #CopaAmerica semifinals.
