Orlando City SC Stock Watch: New Signings Along Back Line Help Secure 0-0 Draw with Colorado Rapids

The Colorado Rapids have been a force in Major League Soccer this season, but that didn’t stop a new back line from holding the club scoreless to secure a point in a 0-0 draw.

Before we enjoy the midweek fun tonight, let's take a look at who sees their stock rising and falling ahead of the match.

Rising

Mikey Ambrose – The latest Orlando City B call-up defended the left flank with quality we haven’t seen yet this season, though if you follow OCB, you have seen his ability all year. He was all over the pitch, winning four aerials while contributing three interceptions, three clearances, and two blocked shots. He’s not setting any world records, but he does have the speed to keep up with attackers and did a good job planting his flag on his side of the field defensively.

He completed the only cross he tried, but finished just 78.2% overall with his passing. We'll want to see an improvement there, but this was a very encouraging debut. Have you ordered your Ambrose jersey yet?

José Aja – The Uruguayan started alongside Ambrose against the Rapids, and was equally important in maintaining a clean sheet. Already an imposing presence at 6-foot-4, Aja showed good instinctual defense en route to seven clearances and three interceptions. While he also showed his inexperience in allowing a chance on a cross, Aja certainly made the most of this opportunity.

Falling

Kaká – After a phenomenal performance last time out, the captain was blanketed from beginning to end and given no room to work. Completing just 79.2% of his passes — already low for the man with the armband — doesn't tell the whole story, as he was really only effective conservatively and was rarely a threat.

Cyle Larin – A byproduct of missing service from the team’s star, Larin was anything but fantastic in searching for service to convert. His two shots were both off target, and he did little to command presence on the ball, showing a heavy touch when he wasn’t being dispossessed
