USA vs. Switzerland International Friendly: How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, Match Thread and More
Welcome to your live thread for tonight's friendly between the United States Women's National Team and Switzerland. The team is in action for the first time since way back on Sept. 18 against the Netherlands. Jill Ellis is giving plenty of new faces a look this time around, with 11 uncapped players among the 24 on the roster – 18 of which will dress for tonight’s match. The roster leans heavily on the NWSL, which could be a great thing for both the league and U.S. Soccer moving forward.
Pride captain Alex Morgan wasn’t selected this time around, as Ellis searches for the next wave of players who can develop into national teamers. However, NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year Ashlyn Harris is with the team, representing the Pride. It would be really mean if Ellis doesn’t start Harris because today is her birthday. The keeper is 31 years young today, which for goalkeepers is prime time.
Tonight will mark the third meeting between the two countries. The USWNT is 2-0 in the all-time series against the Swiss. The Yanks defeated Switzerland 3-0 in the 2015 Algarve Cup, with Morgan, Abby Wambach, and Amy Rodriguez scoring the goals. The teams also met in August of 2014, with the U.S. winning 4-1 in Cary, NC. Carli Lloyd and Wambach scored from the penalty spot in that match, and the Swiss also scored on a penalty through Ana Maria Crnogorcevic, and I just broke my tongue trying to say that last name.
The Americans and Swiss will battle again this Sunday in Minneapolis at 1:45 p.m.
The United States women have not been beaten in 2016, sporting a record of 18-0-3. The penalty shootout loss in the Olympics, of course, counts officially as a draw no matter how much it felt like a loss. However, the Swiss will provide a great test for a U.S. side with so many new faces.
Managed by former German international Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, Switzerland is on a bit of a roll, having qualified for Euro 2017 by winning all eight Group 6 matches by a combined score of 34-3. That’s ridiculous, but it wasn’t exactly against a murderer’s row of countries: Italy, Czech Republic, Northern Ireland, and Georgia. Crnogorcevic scored seven goals and assisted on seven others during qualifying.
Switzerland is ranked No. 15 in the world and if the Americans don’t jell, the Swiss are capable of getting a result and potentially snapping that unbeaten streak. They made it into the knockout round of the 2015 World Cup in Canada, going out 1-0 to cup finalist Japan.
The U.S. defense – sans Julie Johnston but with stalwart Becky Sauerbrunn on the roster – must keep Lara Dickenmann quiet. The Ohio State product has 44 goals in 114 caps for the Swiss national team.

Match Thread Rules
This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you're new, welcome to our happy home! While you're here, please observe a few basic rules:
- Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
- Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's OK to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
- Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
- Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.
