Transfer Rumor: Liga MX Side Queretaro Interested in Orlando City Captain Kaká

We’ve seen Kaká transfer rumors before, with interest from China and elsewhere, but the latest are coming out of Mexico. Multiple outlets, citing information obtained from ESPN Radio, are reporting interest in the Brazilian by Liga MX club Queretaro.

Yes, we know. We’re just reporting what’s out there, regardless of how little credibility we place upon it. So we would be remiss in omitting a rumor involving Orlando City’s most popular player.

Reports, like the one above, say that Queretaro would make the Orlando City captain the highest paid player in Mexico, paying him $6 million per year for four years. That would surpass what Tigres is paying André-Pierre Gignac.

One report laughably noted that Orlando City has yet to deny any deal is being discussed. In related news, Barcelona has not yet denied that Messi is coming to Orlando, either.

Kaká’s contract with Orlando City runs through Dec. 31, 2017, so any deal for the captain would need to go through the club/league. Both Orlando City and Major League Soccer have heavily involved the Brazilian in marketing efforts for the past two seasons. He’s been the face of the club and one of the faces of the league since his arrival, and he’s mostly delivered on the field. The Sao Paulo native has amassed 17 goals and 15 assists in 51 MLS appearances (50 starts) over the past two seasons.

Letting Kaká go would illustrate a major shift in playing style for Orlando City under Jason Kreis and it would free up money that could be used to bring in top talent from around the world. On the other hand, Kaká has been one of the team’s best players over the last two years and has recently hinted about extending his contract beyond 2017.

Orlando City and MLS would need to get something substantial to part with Kaká early. We’ll rate these rumors as ranging anywhere from LOL to merely unlikely for now, but we’ll monitor the story as it develops.
