Lion Links: 11/25/16

While most of the news was negative Wednesday, a day full of face-stuffing came to an end with some good news for a few Orlando City players. We hope that everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving, but like clockwork, here are today’s links.

Cyle Larin named among Top 100 Young Players List

For the first time since 2011, an MLS player was named among the top 100 young players in world football. The good news for the Lions is that Cyle Larin was the one to break the trend. In 2011, Giovani Dos Santos was named to the list, although it was before he joined LA Galaxy in MLS.

At the time, Dos Santos was a part of the plans at Tottenham under manager Harry Redknapp. The Mexican international joined LA Galaxy on July 15, 2015, and has yet to be featured on the list.

Kevin Molino Likely to be Recalled for Trinidad and Tobago

Days after the news of the Jurgen Klinsmann dismissal, another international coach was relieved of his duties. The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association parted ways with Stephen Hart after three years. Regardless of the news, Kevin Molino is likely to be recalled.

Molino has missed recent international matches to Costa Rica and Honduras due to disciplinary suspension. As it stands, Trinidad and Tobago sits second to bottom in the CONCACAF Hex, just above the United States.

Orlando City SC U13/U14s beat Borussia Dortmund

To start, if these two senior teams faced off, it would likely get ugly and quick. However, the Orlando City SC U13/U14 squad managed to defeat Dortmund 5-2 after trailing at halftime at ESPN’s World Wide of Sports.

It may seem like a very minuscule win in the grand scheme of things, but Dortmund is known to have one of the best youth set-ups in Europe. With the likes of Christian Pulisic and Felix Passlack coming through the youth ranks for the German giant, the win very well may be a sign of great things to come in Orlando.

Steven Gerrard Officially Retires

While it comes as no surprise, Steven Gerrard has officially retired. After Milton Keynes Dons approached him about their vacant managerial position, it was only a matter of time before the news became official. After playing 17 years at Liverpool, Gerrard wrapped up his career at LA Galaxy with the newly promoted Bruce Arena.

Gerrard wrapped up his career as just the third player to make 500 or more appearances for a single Premier League club. In addition to his club accomplishments, Gerrard has earned 114 international caps for England, good for third in the country’s history.

Last but not least, I hope everyone had an unforgettable Thanksgiving with friends and family. Thank you for reading; I hope that you enjoyed the links for today and check back later today for more Orlando City news.
