USA vs. Trinidad & Tobago World Cup Qualifier: How to Watch, TV and Live Stream Info, Roster and More

Welcome to your match thread for today’s World Cup qualifying match between the United States Men’s National Team and Kevin Molino’s Trinidad & Tobago side. The Yanks host the Soca Warriors right here in the Sunshine State, at Jacksonville’s EverBank Field.

The U.S. is 3-1-1 and on 10 points, just behind T&T (3-0-2, 11 points). So, the USMNT needs a result to assure advancing to the Hex. A win would clinch the group. The teams drew 0-0 in Port of Spain last November in the first leg, with Tim Howard keeping the clean sheet. Overall, the USMNT has won 17 meetings in the series, losing three times and drawing four (per 11v11.com).

Joevin Jones scored twice in Trinidad & Tobago’s 2-2 home draw against Guatemala on Friday. Christian Pulisic did likewise for the United States at St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Five different Americans scored in that 6-0 win by the USMNT.

John Brooks, Jermaine Jones, Clint Dempsey, and Gyasi Zardes will all miss the match with various injuries/ailments, but the Yanks get Michael Bradley back after his yellow card suspension. Michael Orozco has also joined the USMNT. Meanwhile, DeAndre Yedlin has returned to Newcastle after picking up his second yellow card of the qualifying round, and Matt Besler went home to be with his new daughter, who was born on Friday.

Jurgen Klinsmann will want his side to win Group C and his team selection will likely reflect that, with familiar faces throughout the lineup. With Yedlin unavailable, Klinsmann may opt to move Geoff Cameron from center back to right back, inserting a central defense duo of Omar Gonzalez and Steve Birnbaum. Or, perhaps he’ll move Fabian Johnson to right back with Kellyn Acosta at left back. Alejandro Bedoya and Bradley will almost certainly start. Graham Zusi is another likely starter. Will Klinsmann keep Johnson in the midfield or make way for Pulisic?  Jozy Altidore and Bobby Wood will likely be the strike partnership.

Tim Howard is expected to get the start in goal. If that happens, Howard will earn his 32nd World Cup qualifying cap, making him the most capped USMNT player in World Cup qualifiers. He would surpass Kasey Keller for that milestone achievement.

The USMNT has never lost in Jacksonville (4-0-1), although the previous five games have all been friendlies. The United States first played in Jacksonville back on April 16, 1994, in a 1-1 tie vs. Moldova at the old Gator Bowl. The last four USMNT matches in Jacksonville have been wins at EverBank Field, starting with a 2-1 victory over Israel on Jun 17, 1997. The Yanks got their first ever win over Germany at EverBank Field on June 2, 1999 — a 3-0 final. Since then, there was a 5-1 win over Scotland on May 26, 2012, and a 2-1 win over Nigeria in a World Cup send-off series match on June 7, 2014 — a game in which Howard earned his 100th U.S. cap.

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's ok to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.
