Orlando City Officially Unveils Purple 2017 Home Kits
Orlando City officially unveiled the club’s new purple home kits for 2017 and they’re what we came to expect with the recent leak. The new, stylish jerseys feature the familiar Adidas triple stripe in metallic gold across the shoulders and a collar that will allow you to wear the home shirt to work on casual Friday.
The lone question mark was whether the names and numbers on the back would also be in gold but they are not. The player names and numbers remain white, as is the number on the matching purple shorts.
Fans who have reached out to us tend to be mixed on the whole collar debate but I personally like the shirt quite a bit. Our Sean Rollins recently touched on the history of collared jersey in soccer, in case you’re interested in knowing a bit more about the subject.
The jersey is made from something called “heathered adizero material,” in Orlando City’s iconic purple color. The classic three-stripe Adidas pattern continues onto purple shorts, with purple socks as well. The longitude and latitude coordinates of the center of Orlando City’s new downtown soccer stadium (28.5410645°, -081.3890350°) are featured on the bottom of the right sleeve, commemorating the club “coming home” to its new venue. On this year’s model, the Orlando City crest has been raised with a metallic gold finish.
On the bottom left is the white City Lion head and the Lions’ crown and the words “Orlando City” remain on the neckline — and have been added to the players’ socks in gold, highlighting the team’s championship tradition during its years in the USL.
Orlando Health remains the shirt sponsor, with the company’s logo in white emblazoned across the front.
"We congratulate Orlando City, Orlando Pride, and OCB on finally coming home. It's great to have you in the neighborhood," said Andy Gardiner, SVP of External Affairs at Orlando Health in a club press release. "We've been your proud partner since you first arrived in Orlando and we're extremely honored you have chosen Orlando Health as the exclusive medical provider and jersey partner for the club’s three teams."
Fans have the first opportunity to buy the new jersey at the Fan Forum tonight, with LionNation members getting a one-hour head start to purchase the kit, starting at 5 p.m. The will be held at Wall Street Plaza and includes a Q&A with Head Coach Jason Kreis and Heineken specials. Players Brek Shea, Joe Bendik, Jonathan Spector, and Will Johnson will be on hand.
A pop-up store will be open at Colonial Plaza from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday, and will be the only location to purchase the jersey before Monday.
