Orlando City’s Trip to New England Postponed Over Severe Weather Concerns

Orlando City’s first road match of the season, scheduled for Saturday afternoon against the New England Revolution, has been postponed due to extreme weather conditions expected in Foxborough, MA. The match has been moved to Sept. 2 at Gillette Stadium.

Temperatures for the match were expected to be a high of about 22 degrees in the afternoon, with nighttime lows around 5 degrees, and snow storms expected throughout Friday. The inclement weather is part of Winter Storm Reggie.

Following their season-opening win over New York City FC last Sunday, the Lions will now have a full two weeks in between matches, as the club returns to action next Saturday, March 18, against the Philadelphia Union at Orlando City Stadium.

The upside is that team captain Kaká and others will now miss one fewer game at the start of the season while out with injuries. One of the downsides is that a back line in need of playing time together will now have to go 13 days between games.

By moving the match to Sept. 2, it puts the Lions in a situation of having to play seven of nine games on the road during a crowded stretch in August and early September, including a four-game road trip that now starts in New England, with stops in D.C., Atlanta, and Portland.
