Welcome to your match thread for tonight's match-up between Orlando City (1-0-0, 3 points) and the Philadelphia Union (0-0-2, 2 points). This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the Eastern Conference rivals in 2017. The return leg is set for Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia Chester, PA, on Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. in the regular season finale. It’ll be the second time in three years the Lions will finish at Philadelphia.

Orlando City had a week off due to Winter Storm Reggie’s postponement of the New England road game. The Union have drawn at Vancouver and at home to Toronto to start the season so they’ll try their luck against a U.S.-based team.

The Lions were 1-1-1 against Philadelphia in 2016 but are just 1-2-2 in five meetings across their first two seasons in Major League Soccer, including 0-0-2 at home. That lone win came in the most recent meeting, and in the only match between the two sides since Jason Kreis became Orlando City’s head coach. Orlando won that one, 2-0, at Philadelphia on Oct. 16, 2016.

The last meeting in Orlando was a 2-2 draw as Ken Tribbett made the Lions pay for Kaká’s missed penalty in the first half by scoring an equalizing goal off a corner kick. Kevin Molino and Cyle Larin scored for Orlando City, but the Lions were poor on set pieces, allowing Tribbett’s tally and another score off a free kick by Tranquillo Barnetta. Speaking of Barnetta, his free kick in the 89^th minute gave Philly a 2-1 win in the first meeting of 2016, although PRO said later it should not have counted. C.J. Sapong also scored in that meeting last April, with Adrian Winter scoring for the Lions on the road.

Orlando drew 0-0 at home and lost on the road, 1-0 (on a penalty kick), against Philadelphia in 2015.

Kaká (hamstring), Rafael Ramos (hamstring), Tony Rocha (hamstring), and Seb Hines (knee) are expected to miss the match due to injury. Carlos Rivas (hamstring) is day-to-day but did train late this week. For Philadelphia, Josh Yaro (shoulder) and Maurice Edu (leg) are out. Jay Simpson (bruised lung) is doubtful, with Ilsinho, Charlie Davies, and Ken Tribbett questionable.
