Welcome to your match thread for today's match-up between Orlando City and New York City FC at Yankee Stadium. It’s the second of three scheduled meetings set for 2017, with the first being the Lions’ 1-0 opening day win to christen Orlando City Stadium on March 5. Cyle Larin and Joe Bendik were the big heroes that day for the lads in purple. The third meeting is set for May 21 at 7 p.m. at Orlando City Stadium.

Orlando City is 4-1-2 in the all-time series (1-1-1 at Yankee Stadium) and captured the season series last year, 2-0-1, with a win and a draw on the road.

Lions Head Coach Jason Kreis will be facing his most recent MLS team for the third time, and will look to stay perfect in those match-ups. In addition to the win to kick off 2017, Kreis’ charges beat his old club, 2-1, on Aug. 28 of last year.

Kaká’s first MLS brace more than offset a Steven Mendoza goal in the final meeting of 2016, in which Kreis exacted a measure of revenge against the club that fired him after only one season. Orlando City won the first round of 2016, 1-0, at Yankee Stadium on March 18 on a goal by Larin, killer of New York teams. The teams drew 2-2 on May 29 in the Bronx. After falling behind, 2-0, on goals by Frederic Brillant and David Villa, the Lions rallied late, with Julio Baptista and Kevin Molino firing City level.

You may recall that the two 2015 expansion sides played their first MLS game against each other back on March 8, 2015. Kaká's free kick in stoppage time gave the Lions a 1-1 draw, canceling out Mix Diskerud's second-half goal.

Rafael Ramos (hamstring) and Seb Hines (knee surgery) are out for Orlando. Kaká (hamstring) and Jose Aja (hamstring) are both nearing returns. Meanwhile, Tony Rocha (hamstring) played half a game Tuesday night in Harrisburg on a rehab assignment to OCB. For the hosts, Ronald Matarrita (ankle) and Khiry Shelton (hamstring) are out.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you're new, welcome to our happy home! While you're here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's OK to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.
