USA vs. Norway, International Friendly: How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, Match Thread and More

Welcome to your live thread for today's friendly match between the United States Women's National Team and Norway. It’s the second game of a rare friendly swing through Europe by the USWNT, which opened the trip with a 1-0 win at Sweden on Thursday. Rose Lavelle provided the only goal in that match off a Crystal Dunn assist.

The U.S. hadn’t done well against Sweden in recent meetings, notably getting knocked out of the Olympics. The match was just a meaningless friendly but it’s always nice to re-establish command in a series. But the game was fairly evenly played and perhaps Sweden was deserving of at least a split of the points. Jill Ellis will want the USWNT to be sharper in this second game.

It has been just over two years since the last time the USWNT played Norway. Carli Lloyd scored twice that day to lead the Yanks to a 2-1, come-from-behind win on March 4, 2015.

It’s hard to believe, but this will be the 50th meeting between the two nations. The USWNT has played only Canada and China more often than the Norwegians (56 times each). However, this will be only the fourth meeting in Norway, where the U.S. is 1-1-1. The U.S. holds a 28-19-2 record in the series, outscoring today’s hosts, 92-61, but Norway held an advantage in the series until the early 2000s and has scored more goals against the United States than any other country.

The teams met in the first FIFA Women’s World Cup final back in 1991 and played an incredible 30 times between 1987 and 2000. But the two sides have met only four times in this decade — all U.S. wins. Norway, like the U.S. has both a World Cup and an Olympic Gold medal to its credit, so these are two of the three teams to have accomplished that feat.

Look for Ellis to continue to give different player combinations some time. Dunn, Christen Press, and Mallory Pugh seem to be focal points of the future for this squad. Meanwhile, Lloyd pursues 100 international goal (she currently sits on 97) and Sydney Leroux looks to try to get back into regular national team consideration.

Due to injuries, the Orlando Pride will not be represented today. Goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris (quad) and forward Alex Morgan (hamstring) are injured. Defender Ali Krieger was left off of the travel roster.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you're new, welcome to our happy home! While you're here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's OK to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match. Go America!
